As the weather gets colder it has many of us craving those warm and delicious “comfort foods”. So, this week’s colder weather has inspired me to share some Easy Comfort Food recipes featuring items from this week’s bundle.
Fun Fact: Drawings of radishes found in Egyptian tombs can be traced back to 2000 BCE, and written texts from the Greek historian Herodotus also mention that Egyptians thought that radishes contained high energy due to their spicy, warming flavor. Pharaohs capitalized on this belief, and Black radishes were frequently fed to workers building the pyramids to sustain and increase energy levels.
Anyone else craving soup with all the cool damp days we’ve been having?! Soup is a favourite meal of mine and my family so this week I’m featuring a few that are not only easy but also use at least one of the vegetables in this week’s crate. This week’s crate contains many soup essentials!
Buttercup Squash was initially discovered as a chance seedling and was bred to be an alternative for sweet potatoes in culinary dishes. It is believed to have been cultivated by the Incas and are thought to have been eaten in the Americas over 5,000 years ago!
Fun Fact: Colour is not an indication of the heat intensity of Habanero Chili Peppers. The heat will vary from pepper to pepper. Handle with Care You may wish to wear gloves and goggles when handling and slicing the pepper as the capsaicin can irritate the skin and eyes.
Fun Fact: Daikon radishes are one of the most cultivated vegetables in Japan and are viewed as a purifying food to detox the body and stimulate digestion.
Fun Fact: The name dill comes from the old English word dilla, meaning “to lull” because it has been used to soothe stomach pain, colic in babies, and other ailments.
