If you haven't already been in and seen their amazing meat products or have had the chance to meet Mike, we would love to take this chance to introduce you to Green Pastures Farm.  Over the past several months we've got to know Mike, who shares our values of producing high quality products and goals of creating a self sustaining business that provides quality food to the local community. We asked him to weigh in on some simple but important questions and here is what he had to say...
Mabel May Farms is our most local supplier, we share an address, a farm field and our bees graze the fields alongside their grass fed sheep. The farm supplies pastured and grass fed meats and eggs with particular focus on local Burlington raised grass fed lamb. Meaghan, our farmer and co- founder, manages Mabel May Farms along with her husband Norm. We sat down with Norm and Meaghan and asked them a few questions about their family farm, the food they grow and what they are excited about in 2020.Â
A quick update from Vincent our mead maker. Vincent is excited to announce that we are officially retailing our mead on location. He also points discusses our building plans for the 2020 season!
Green Pastures Farm is family owned and operated, having been in Mike’s family for over forty years. For 3 or 4 months in the Spring and Summer of 2019 Mike ran a pop up farm store on Bell School Line, just West of Milton and North of Burlington. It was a great way to meet new customers and make some initial sales. Many of the people he met on the side of the road are still customers today. It was a really good experience, but it was A LOT of work! At the same time, we were just starting up.
At Backed By Bees in the last little while, we have been through a lot of change. It’s inevitable, and something that every start up business is forced to deal with. Among all the change the three of us have taken on, we started with an idea, a belief that has kept it all grounded and focused. The idea being ‘local’; from the physical location of operations, to the community we are joining, to the products we are able to produce, from the land to the hive to the bottle, everything is rooted in supporting local.
