Are you interested in honey bees and beekeeping, but are not quite sure if it is for you? This is a ‘full on’ two hour experience designed to help you understand whether beekeeping is right for you.
At Backed By Bees we know the first real step to beekeeping is making sure that you can function around busy honey bee colonies. We also know that you need to understand the basic details of what a beekeeper does. Led by our head beekeeper, who has over 15 years experience in beekeeping, during this experience you will:
Be given an overview of the basic workings and structure of a bee yard.
Open up a bee colony, handle honey bee frames, interact with honey bees and see the internal workings of a colony.
Discuss the colony and hive structure and talk through the beekeeper role.
Try your hand at performing some of the demanding tasks required of you as a beekeeper.
Learn appropriate next steps if you are interested in pursuing beekeeping further.
This is a hands-on experience and the group is kept small, so you’ll have a chance to ask your questions and spend time interacting with the bees. After this experience , you will walk away with a good understanding if beekeeping is right for youand what the next steps might be to becoming a beekeeper.
Available dates and times are listed below. Price is per individual.
